Apple's upcoming iPhone 8 is not going to be cheap because of the high cost of its new display, said a senior executive of a subsidiary of Foxconn, a major contract manufacturer of iPhones.

"The yield rate of the free shape OLED is only 60 percent!" said Luo Zhongsheng (羅忠生), general manager of Sharp's cellphone business, in a post on the Chinese microblog Weibo.
"The cutting of free shape OLED is apparently highly difficult and of course will not be cheap. I estimate that iPhone 8 will not be cheap."
He deleted the post hours later.
Media reported that Samsung Electronics is the supplier of Apple's OLED (organic light-emitting diode) displays.
News websites in the U.S. and China have speculated that Apple's upcoming flagship smartphone will come with a price tag between US$1,000 (approximately NT$30,000) and US$1,200 (approximately NT$36,000)
